Upgrades 32. Black Rear Badge

To finish off the so called "black pack" I decided I'd change the rear badge from chrome to black. The black badge has only become available since the CSR twenty was announced and so they probably now ship all black pack cars with this, if you are speccing up a new car right now you can probably ask for this and they would fit it for you FOC, this was the same with speccing up red belts instead of black on my build. The badge is available on the Caterham parts website if you don't have this new build luxury!

This is a fairly trivial job. First i marked the area where the new badge will be applied using frog tape, then application of the new one would be in the same place. I used a heat gun on low from a distance (which is probably overkill, but I couldn't be bothered to walk upstairs to get a hair dryer which is a little less intense). I kept it at a distance and moved it a lot as these things get pretty hot and I didn't want to ruin the paint. once the letters were sufficiently warm, they all just peeled off pretty easily. I then used some tar and adhesive removal liquid to remove any sticky residue.

Once all the letters and glue were off, I used some isopropyl rub to give the surface a final clean and then offered up the new one as a "test" to check how I was going to apply the badge. This is strictly a one time only deal so I wanted to get it right. Once I was happy with how it was going on, I removed the rear sticky backing paper and then placed it in place.

I used a metal ruler to check it was straight, which is was, even though to the eye the shadow makes it look slightly curved! Overall a great finishing touch to the car.
